Color of the Week Proposal #3

The color for this week will be PINK! As you may have noticed, my favorite color is pink. It's girly, bright and fun. I think I will explore still life photography to represent pink things, literally as well as through the items in the still life representing girliness.

When we were talking about still life photography in class, Irving Penn was brought up as an example.



This photo caught my eye immediately by Irving. It made me think about when I was younger and would get into my mom's makeup.

Reflections In The Water

A few days ago, I watched the movie 'Devil', (alright movie but I wouldn't really recommend paying money to see it) and what caught my attention were the opening credits. The vdeo below is the beginning of the movie, the credits start at around 1minute 30 sec.

I was going to explore the effects of sunlight on water for my color of the week but soon found that I was much more interested with the reversed image of architecture reflected in puddles than any yellow sun effects. It wasn't until I came home, and put the photos onto my computer that I realised the link between watching Devil and what type of photos I was intrigued about that day. The oddness of viewing a cityscape upside down was captivating and somehow very pleasing to me.



These photos remind me of the Amityville Horror film, not exactly sure why, but I think it's the wind in the water and the ominous house looming.. or maybe it's just because of the way I contextualized these photos around the credits for another 'horror' film.



Fire Hydrants



 

I was prety excited about finding this stock pile of hydrants!! WHERE ARE THE BIG ONES?!?! Anyone know where I could find some of those not behind a fence? Are they even fire hydrants? I don't know, but they're neat.



I've Got Sunshine In a Bag

Here's a song to listen to while viewing these photos... it just makes me feel YELLOW.



After trying to capture yellow in the effects of sunlight on water I decided to ditch that idea for an exploration of color and primarily explore texture.

 


 

The classic yellow school bus doesn't need much of an explanation. I wasn't actually going to use it because of how cliche it is, however when I viewed this photo next to the repeating yellow lines of the second photo, I absolutly love how the bus continues the line created by the poles. The reflection of the bus in the water is also very interesting to me, which will be explored in more detail in an upcoming post...
